Very Rare Antique French Mechanical Toy "Lady in Rick-Shaw" by Roullet & Decamps

Very Rare Antique French Mechanical Toy "Lady in Rick-Shaw" by Roullet & Decamps

A bisque doll with blue glass eyes, open mouth, slightly amber tinted complexion is pulling the wooden handles of a two-wheeled rick-shaw in which is seated a smaller bisque doll, also with blue eyes and open mouth. Each doll is costumed in Japanese style garb which is partially original. When wound, the larger doll walks briskly along, pulling the rick-shaw while the lady waves her arms up and down. Condition structurally excellent, bisque excellent, mechanism functions well, silk costumes frail. The key is original. Attributed to Roullet et Decamps, circa 1905.

This is a VERY, VERY RARE variation of their popular mechanical toy featuring children and cart. This piece may have been influenced by the popular opera Madame Butterfly of 1905. Only few other examples of this model are known to exist.

Measures - 16" (41 cm.) overall length. 13" standing doll.
