Early French Bisque Bebe Schmitt Doll Known as Cup and Saucer Style
15" (38 cm.) Pale bisque head with flat-cut socket head that swivels upon paper mache torso neck,rounded facial modeling,almond shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading,dark eyeliner,painted curly lashes,lightly feathered brows,accented eye corners and nostrils of tiny pertly shaped nose,closed mouth with center accent line,pierced ears,blonde lambswool wig original Schmitt pate, original mohait wig, original composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with flat-cut derriere,nicely costumed in antique original checkered dress and bonnet. Marks: 1 Bte SGDG (head). Comments: Schmitt et Fils,circa 1878, very rare earliest model of that firm's bisque bebe. Very beautiful example whose dramatic eyes contrast the plump sculpting and delicate bisque,original body and body finish,early neck style. Her bisque head has one very tiny and almost invisible hairline (please look the last photo). Her body is good condition and has original Schmitt black mark. I do a layaway.
