RARE GORGEOUS 27" Jumeau Triste Long Face Jumeau -c.1880

RARE GORGEOUS 27" Jumeau Triste Long Face Bebe from HURET shop - Paris, circa 1880

The ultimate Jumeau Triste doll for your collection! She is really outstanding and gorgeous bebe from Huret shop (22, boulv.Montmartre, Paris).

Pressed bisque socket head with elongated and plump cheeks, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes with pronounced eyelids lending a dreamy effect, painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, rose-blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate. Her french Jumeau composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body marked by HURET company shop.

The doll wearing very beautiful blue silk taffeta dress with lace trim, antique original undergarments, lace bonnet with silk ribbon rosettes, stockings, very nice brown leather shoes with heels and rosettes. She has original Jumeau blue earrings and wonderful bracelet. The antique me-nots brooch is including.

Emile Jumeau, circa 1880, an early model of the beloved Bebe Triste, the model sculpted by French artist Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887).
In 1879 the Emperor's sculptor Carrier-Belleuse was commissioned by Jumeau to fashion an epicene head, to be used as that of either boy or girl. Carrier-Belleuse is reputed to have used a portrait of King Henry of Navarra at age four as model and the design became known as Jumeau Triste. The model was offered until 1886/1887 when pressed bisque was discontinued.

Value Points: especially beautiful quality of bisque and painting, original early body and body finish, charming antique blue costume.

Condition is generally excellent!!! There are NOT any hairlines or repairs to the bisque. Marks: 12 (head), HURET (body). I received comments about Huret sticker on the Jumeau Body from Samy Odin (doll museum in Paris): "The body, like the head, were made by Jumeau and the sticker on the body simply refers to the fact that the Huret company also had a shop where dolls by other manufactures were offered for sale, together with their own creations. It's not the first time I see a Huret paper label glued on the body of a doll NOT made by Huret; I also remember seeing a Steiner and a Schmitt".

Please email me if you have any questions or need additional photos. Thanks for looking.
