In 1879 Maison Jumeau initiated a change in the look of his Bebes. Working in association with the celebrated French sculpture Carrier-Belleuse they created the Bebe Triste - so called because of its level gaze and contemplative expression.
This model, along with the EJA of the same time frame, represented the more artistic, realistic expression absent in Jumeau dolls up to this point. At first just two sizes were made. In the end a series of only eight sizes were produced - sizes 9-16. They were 21-34in tall.

This Rare Model Bebe Triste only 25in, is the 3rd smallest of all eight sizes. The smaller sizes are the hardest to find and the easier to accommodate. She is a gorgeous example. It has flawless quality bisque…ivory pure with a gentle blush. Her eyes are glowing light filled gentle blue Paperweight Eyes resting beneath Shaded Eyelids and tender brushed stroked eyebrows. Every element of her design supports the soulful quality of her expression. Her beautiful Closed Mouth is nestled amidst her graceful long cheeks…in contrast to her well defined aquiline nose.

Her body is the original Stiff Wrist 8-ball body featuring the large rake hands of the early bodies. It has the early Medaille d Or blue ink mark and is attached to her head with the Original Coil.

CONDITION: Excellent! Both head and body! The head free of hairline, restoration or any damages (2-3 tiny wig pulls at the back). The body is signed and has the original patina and perfect fingers.

The doll wearing absolutely wonderful fully hand stitched dark green velvet dress with red silk front, richly decorated with gold metal trim and cords, straw hat, antique underwear, socks, vintage leather shoes.
