This doll is incredibly beautiful! Rarity of the portrait face is rivaled only by its beauty and fine quality of bisque, complexion and painting.
Bisque head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, heart-shaped elongated face, flat-cut neck, almond-shaped cobalt brown glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils of aquiline nose, closed mouth with primly-smiling lips, pronounced accent line between the lips, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body, wonderful antique original early silk gown, straw hat, muslin and cotton underwear (pantaloon, chemise, two underskirts), socks, original leather boots. Condition: generally excellent. Her bisque free of hairline, restoration, any damages. The kid body in good condition. 18in (46cm) tall Marks: E. 2 Depose G. (shoulderplate). French, circa 1866, an identical portrait model is known with the markings of Dehors, Paris, c. 1866. The facial resemblance to the beloved Empress Eugenie is remarkable, indicating that the model may have been created specifically for the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paristhat, which was the crowning showpiece of the Napoleon III epoch.
