Paper mache bulldog with well-defined textured finish and musculature, painted cream and black finish, black ears, brown glass eyes, ruff and leather studded collar with chain leash, tiny hidden wheels for pull-along movement; his hinged jaw opens when the chain leash is pulled, revealing ferocious teeth, and causing the bulldog to growl.

Condition: one pad has been restored (please look last photo), with some craquelure and paint rubs on original finish.

French, late 19th century, an earlier version of the popular toy that was made for several decades.
