Antique dolls at Respectfulbear.com
Antique rare patent Autoperipatetikos Walking doll by Enoch Rice Morrison, 9 1/2 tall, 1862.

She has a cloth body, China bisque head with painted facial features, walks by a key wound clock work mechanism. Doll marked on base "Patented July 15th, 1862: also in Europe, 20 Dec. 1862".
Invented by Enoch Rice Morrison of New York and patented July 15, 1862, No. 35886, Autoperipatetikos must have been the most enthralling toy of its day.
The German papier-mache shoulderhead, leather arms and mechanical movement are in excellent working condition. Wind her up and her largish brass feet leisurely propel her across the floor.
The body underneath is cone-shaped stiffened cloth covering the brass mechanics and forming a base for her lovely early plaid silk dress. The head has the original hand-painted features and no damage or repainting.
Good condition to age, working mechanism. The key is missing.
