Rare to find early wooden doll with wonderfully preserved finish on hair, face and torso.
One-piece wooden head and torso with shapely neck, rounded face, shapely torso with tiny waist, black sculpted hair, painted complexion and facial features, blushed cheeks, thin line mouth, painted red corset, kid upper legs, wooden lower arms and legs, red paper wraps at junctions of kid and wood. An original version with some loss of paint, antique silk costume. A specialty of the Grodnertals in the 1830s, see "Altes Grodner Holzspielzeug, Museum de Gherdeina, Rita Stablein-Robert Moroder" page 123,161 12in (30cm) tall Condition: generally excellent.
