Very beautiful papier mache shoulder headed lady doll, Milliner's model Queen Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, c. 1825, Thuringia.
A shoulder headed doll made of papier mache, square, raised breast plate with modeled breasts, long, straight, nice formed neck, harmonic features, nice detailed modeled with big slightly stick out ears, black painted, skilful and deep modelled hairs in the style of Therese von Hilsburghausen, painted eyes, white, very stocky, hand-sewed kid leather body, with insignificant waist , very stocky, the strong forearms are made of conifer wood, lower leg are made of conifer wood, nice original dress and underwear, amethystine necklace. 22 1/2" (58 cm) tall Germany. c.1825 Therese was a daughter of Frederick, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg. In 1809, she was on the list of possible brides for Napoleon, but in 1810 married the Bavarian crown prince Ludwig. Their wedding was the occasion of the first ever Oktoberfest.
