Very pretty shy-faced bebe has bisque socket head, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eyeshadow, brush stroked and multi-feathered brows with enhancing decorative glaze, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, open mouth with outlined shaded lips, two rows of tiny teeth, dimpled chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, original Gesland medal armature body with padded stockinette, composition lower limbs.
The doll has her original wooden box. Condition: generally excellent, paint finish on hands worn. Marks: F.G. (in scroll banner) 8 1/2. (head) and original stamped label "BEBE E.GESLAND S.G.D.G. 5 rue Beranger PARIS" (on back torso). Gaultier, late 1880s, the doll has been preserved in its original box with "Bebe Parisien" label indicating its marketing by the Alexandre Lefebvre firm, according to an article by Samy Odin in Antique Doll Collector of January, 2017. Rare model with intriguing historical references are enhanced by the actual beauty of the pale-complexioned bebe with beautiful dramatically eyes, double row of teeth,and exceptional dramatic painting that enhances its large deep eyes.
