The Renaissance-style pewter frame is posed upon a self base,and has an attached candlestick at the back. The frame encloses a sculpted lithopane of a young girl with Punchinello which appears only as a sculpture until the candle is lit,when the hidden image appears.
Condition
Unfortunately the picture has a glued crack.
Germany,circa 1885, the framed lithopanes were very cherished luxury objects,and extremely rare in this miniature size.
