Wonderful papier mache shoulder headed doll, Milliner's model "Queen Adelaida"(1792-1849), c. 1830, Thuringia, Germany.
Delicate paper mache shoulder head with sculpted hair in elaborate bun at top of head with wide poufy curls at the side, painted turquoise eyes, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, slender hand-sewed kid body in so-called "milliner's model" style, carved wooden lower limbs, flat black painted shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany,circa. Wonderful hair style,original painted finish, sturdy original body and costume. Born in Meiningen, Germany in 1792, Adelaide was 25 when she wed Prince William Henry, who went on to become Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen (1792 –1849) was Queen of the United Kingdom and Queen of Hanover as the wife of King William IV. King William IV of England. It was at his request that the new colony founded in South Australia in 1836 be named after his wife, who became well known for her tireless commitment to civic work. 9 in (23cm) tall Germany, c.1830 I DO A LAYAWAY!
