22" (56 cm) French Bisque Bebe Doll Gigoteur by Jules Steiner with Au Nain Bleu Label

Wonderful and early 22" Kicking-Crying Steiner doll has solid domed very pale bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, rounded face, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, feathered brows, shaded nostrils, open mouth with pale accented lips, one row of tiny porcelain teeth, original blonde hand made mohair fleecy wig, carton torso with clockwork mechanism, kid-over-metal hinged upper legs, composition arms and lower legs with bare feet, beautiful antique white cotton costume with lace and white embroidery.

She does not have pierced ears, all her fingers on the hands are separate. She has the earliest feet manufactured by Steiner with the separated big toe. The solid dome bisque head in excellent condition, this is guaranteed to be perfect - without any hairlines, invisible repairs or any manufacturer defects. She has been black lighted and light tested.

This mechanical doll works by way of a key-wound clockwork mechanism in her chest. There is a main rod which runs up through the flange neck opening and attaches to the head by way of a glue-saturated piece of cardboard. This is how the head moves from side to side when the key is wound. Her torso is made of cardboard, covered with muslin (spotting to the muslin). Her upper legs are leather and the bottoms are composition, as are the arms. When wound she kicks her legs, moves her arms up and down and turns her head. There is also a bellows attached to the clockwork mechanism that cry "Mama" and "Papa" as she kicks, and her crying mrchanism working very well. This E, "BEBE GIGOTEUR" is a FINE EXAMPLE and really very beautiful.

Jules Steiner, his deposed bebe, designed to portray an infant child, crying mama and waving arms and legs in realistic manner, marketed as Bebe Gigoteur. Very prestige example of the beloved doll with finest bisque and painting, having original paper label from the luxury Parisian toy store, Au Nain Bleu.

She would be a great additional to any fine antique doll collection.
