20 and 1/2" (52 cm) Antique French Paper Mache Polichinelle doll with characterized face, c.1885, very rare!
Paper mache head with highly characterized features,long pointy nose and chin,brown glass eyes,painted features,closed mouth with devilish smile,row of teeth, carved wooden hands and lower legs, two humps. The figure represents the traditionally popular theatrical character of Polichinelle. Wonderfully preserved figure with artistic facial painting,wearing his well-preserved original aqua silk costume over armature-straw body,trimmed with lace,metallic fringe,silver bells,with matching shoes and hat,and original strings.
