Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks and chin, amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. The doll wearing antique woolen red dress, antique underwear^ res silk satin hat, vintage leather boots. Rare wonderful doll with most endearing expression enhanced by beautiful quality of bisque and painting, deep eyes, original signed body, fine antique costume. 19" (49 cm) tall.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Paris Bebe Tete Dep 8 (incised on the head) Paris Bebe Depose (and Eiffel Tower symbol, on body). In 1892 the Jumeau firm challenged Danel in court for pirating the Jumeau design with the production of this doll. When Danel lost the lawsuit, Jumeau used the Paris Bebe Trademark for their own version with a character face. Danel's Paris Bebe and Jumeau Paris Bebe are marked the same, but the Danel Paris Bebe has the mark incised on the head, and the Jumeau Paris Bebe has the mark stamped in red (not incised).
