Bisque socket head, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined and shaded lips, pierced ears, mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body.
Rare-to-find little girl with appealing anxious expression, pretty costume, underwear, socks, vintage leather shoes. Marks: Paris Bebe Tete Depose 4 (head). Paris Bebe Depose (and Eiffel Tower symbol, body). Danel & Cie, circa 1891, the model was made by that firm for only one year before being forced to cease production by Jumeau; after that the trade name was used by Jumeau. The story of the Jumeau/Danel lawsuit is told in The Jumeau Book by Theimer/Theriault on pages 148-151. 13" (33cm) tall Condition: there is an old very faint short hairline at front crown rim (under wig), otherwise excellent. The body with original finish.
